SMC Pentax-F 35-70mm F3.5-4.5

I'm testing an old lens from the first generation of Pentax auto focus lenses that was made in the late 80's until around 1991 (don't know when my copy was produced). this lens claims to have macro capability although it only magnifies up to 1:4, but it does have sort of a "close focus" ability when at 70mm that is activated by turning the zoom ring after it reaches 70mm, which is not a natural thing to do if I haven't known that beforehand.
I find the focus to be hard to lock in close ups using the very uncomfortable and short focusing ring. nevertheless, here are a few samples from my first outdoors test (click to enlarge)

  1. I suspect you need to look at your exposure settings, and I have 5 (five) of these lenses, which came with various film Pentaxes that I collected.. all produce results better than these, so perhaps it's the camera or?? I use an 1SD and a K10D :-)

  2. Mainly the highlights seem blown out.. was the internal flash used, in which case maybe use the flash exposure compensation, or otherwise the normal exposure compensation function or a neutral density filter.

  3. Thanks for your comments nemesis101. My camera is just fine and so is the lens, it does perform much better than this and I really don't do it justice.
This post was a result of my first outing with the lens and contains some heavy crops, I also messed up a little in PP.
Even though I don't use this lens much often, the F 35-70mm is indeed a stellar performer, especially for the price you can get one these days.
